Mr Moore, 55, grew up in the Newtownabbey area and was a parishioner of the Church of the Ascension, Cloghfern. A former teacher, he taught on the Shankill Road for five years, but was ordained curate in Cookstown in 1984. After two years he moved to St Columba’s, Knock, where he was a curate for three years.

He was rector of St Stephen’s and St Luke’s in the Lower Shankill for seven years, and was rector of St John’s and St Ninian’s, Belfast, for seven years.

His most recent incumbency was part time at the parish of St Mary Magdelene in Donegall Pass, Belfast.

Mr Moore is married to Jennifer and the couple are expecting their first child in November.

He said: “I am looking forward to a new challenge. St Mark’s is in an area of Belfast I am familiar with and I feel right at home.

The Bishop of Connor, the Rt Rev Alan Abernethy, preached at the service of institution which took place in St Mark’s.
