Monday January 23rd 2017

The Bishop of Connor, the Rt Rev Alan Abernethy.

The Bishop of Connor, the Rt Rev Alan Abernethy, has described the shooting of a police officer in Crumlin Road, Belfast, on Sunday evening as ‘a wholly unjustifiable and appalling act.’

The officer was shot in an incident at a garage forecourt around 7.30pm (BBC report).

Bishop Abernethy said: “The shooting of the police officer in north Belfast last night is a wholly unjustifiable and appalling act. There can be no excuse for any attack on members of the PSNI and they deserve our support as they carry out their duties on behalf of the whole community.

“My prayers are with the injured police officer and his family at this time.”
