The Rev Denise Acheson.

The Rev Denise Acheson, former Dean’s Vicar at St Anne’s, is to return temporarily to the Cathedral in September to join the clergy team until the appointment of a new Dean.

Denise will be back in St Anne’s in the second week of September, soon after the departure of Dean John Mann for his new role as team rector of the Parish of Swanage with Studland in the Diocese of Salisbury.

Denise is a former rector of St Colman’s, Dunmurry, and prior to that was curate-assistant in Ballyholme Parish. She became Dean’s Vicar at Belfast Cathedral in 2013.  Denise resigned her position in the Cathedral in 2016, having taken a period of extended leave for family reasons.

In October last year she took up a temporary position with the clergy team at Lisburn Cathedral, and she finishes in Lisburn at the end of August.

Denise said: “I always enjoyed my time at St Anne’s and am very happy to be coming back to support the team there during this vacancy and to renew old friendships.”

She is also looking forward to the opportunity to take part in another Black Santa Sit-out at Christmas – “I have my cape ready!” she said.

Denise will be joining Dean’s Vicar the Rev Mark Niblock, and the Rev Janice Elsdon on the St Anne’s clergy team until a new Dean is appointed.

Dean Mann said: “I am delighted that Denise is able to come back and give Mark and Janice support over these next few months. Denise played a very important role in the Cathedral during her time here and I know that parishioners will be delighted to be able to meet with her again. She will be part of the St Anne’s family, albeit temporarily.”
