Cootehill (Drumgoon) Church, Co Cavan in the Diocese of Kilmore, Elphin & Ardagh, extends an inviation to friends in Connor Diocese to celebrations for its 200th anniversary.
The prominent site for the church at the top of the mainstreet was given by Lord Bellamont. The current Bishop’s Curate, the Rev David Moses, was appointed to the Cootehill group in spring 2018.
As part of celebrations for the bicentenary the church is holding a Gospel Concert on Friday May 24 at 7.30pm featuring Joy Boyd and friends from Larne (admission by voluntary subscription).
On Sunday May 26 there will be a special Bicentenary Service, with the Right Rev Ferran Glenfield (Biship of Kilmore, Elphin and Ardagh) as preacher. A number of further events are also planned later in the year.
“Many of the families in our parishes have relatives living in Northern Ireland, and we would like these events to be an opportunity for people to get together,” David said. “We hope the weekend will be a time of renewing acquaintances and making new friends. Although the large church does not have an adjacent car park there is on street parking and there are a number of car parks available within easy walking distance. After the service on Sunday there will be a selection of light refreshments available in the marquee to enable people to stay around and have a chat.”
