The Parish of Whitehead & Islandmagee is holding an Open Garden event at the home of Jim and Hilary Rafferty at the Mill House, Glenwherry, on June 3 and 4.
The serene five-acre garden has featured in the BBC’s Greatest Gardens. Paths wind their way through this wooded haven. Seating is placed at particular points of interest, delightful planting and at two ponds – one with an island and boat jetty. They are surrounded by raised beds and there is a rhododendron walk comprising of over 140 varieties.
The garden will be open from 12 noon until 4pm on both the Saturday and Sunday and there will be plants for sale and teas with home baked goodies.
The garden is situated on the Ballynashee Road half a mile from the main Ballymena- Larne Road (A36) approx 10 miles from Ballymena and 10 miles from Larne.
From Ballyclare take the Collin Road (B94) to the Five Corners pub. Take second road on the right (Sawmill Road). Drive approx. one mile to crossroads and turn left ontoBallynashee Road. Drive 2.8miles to bridge, garden is on the left.
From Broughshane; Take Rathkeel Road (B94)towards Ballyclare. After about 0.6 miles at T junction turn left onto A35 then after approx. three miles turn right onto Ballynashee Road. House is on the right. Please park on Ballynashee Road.
Admission is £2.
