Magazine and website competition launched

The Ven Stephen McBride, Archdeacon of Dalriada and chair of the Connor Communications Committee, receives the prize for best diocesan magazine from Archbishops Eames and Neill at last years General Synod.Parishes in Connor are invited to enter the 2007 Church of Ireland Magazine and Website Competiton.

The competition was launched by the Central Communications Board, and once again design and layout, editorial content and outreach potential are to be the standards of excellence.

In the Print Media section entries are invited in three categories:

• Diocesan Magazines
• Parish Magazine/Newsletter
• Other

In the Website section entries are invited in three categories:

• Diocesan Website
• Parish Website
• Other

The third category, ‘other’, in each section is included in recognition of the increasing role played by these forms of communication in the wider life of the Church of Ireland. Entries are welcome from any committee or group associated with the Church.

Central Communications Board Chairman, Archbishop Alan Harper said: “Magazines and websites are key channels of communication for our Church.  The dedication of those who produce the magazines and develop the websites is to be commended. The work is mostly undertaken on a voluntary basis and the standard of professionalism attained makes a significant contribution to the Church’s work.

“I hope this competition will encourage those involved in this area of work to feel that their contribution is both recognised and appreciated by both the Central Communications Board and the Church as a whole.”

Winners will be announced at the General Synod in Kilkenny in May 2007.

Magazines and newsletters: One recent copy – to Mrs J Compston, Press Office, Church of Ireland House, 61-67 Donegall St, Belfast, BT 1 2QH, Northern Ireland.

The closing date for entries is February 28 2007.
