The Rev Patrick McGlinchey, Church of Ireland Chaplain at Queen's University, about to abseil off the roof of the Europa Hotel!A sponsored abseil from the roof of the Europa Hotel has raised more than £8,000 for the Church of Ireland Centre at Queen’s University.

The money, which is still coming in, will help clear a £24,000 overdraft on significant refurbishment work done in the Chaplaincy.

Forty six brave souls, including Bishop Harold Miller of Down and Dromore and the Ven Dr Stephen McBride, Archdeacon of Connor, successfully abseiled down the famous Belfast landmark.

The event was organised by the Rev Patrick McGlinchey, Church of Ireland Chaplain at Queen’s, who said: “It was a wonderfully enjoyable day, with the exception perhaps of stepping off the roof of the Europa, and we are very grateful for all the support we've been given.”

Students from Queen's who bravely took part in the abseil.
