The Rev Dr David Wenham, Senior Lecturer in New Testament Studies in Trinity College, Bristol, will deliver the 2008 Church of Ireland Annual Theological Lecture at Queen’s University.
Dr Wenham, former Vice-Principal at Wycliffe Hall, University of Oxford, has strong links with Queen’s as his father John delivered the Annual Lectures in 1994 and his brother Gordon taught for a number of years in the Department of Semitic Studies.
This year’s lectures take place in the North Lecture Theatre in the MBC, opposite Elmwood Avenue on the Lisburn Road, at 6pm on Monday February 18 and Tuesday February 19.
The lectures are entitled ‘Mountain top Theology – Jesus and Paul.’ Dr Wenham looks at themes which have traditionally been identified with either Paul or Jesus, but that he believes are present in the teaching of both. In the first lecture he explores the question of ‘Grace in the Sermon on the Mount’ and in the second ‘Righteousness in action in Paul’s theology.’
Tea and biscuits will be served from 4.45pm in The Oasis, 22 Elmwood Avenue, Belfast.
Dr Wenham will also give an additional lunchtime lecture entitled "An interview with Saint Paul" at St Bartholomew's Church, Stranmillis, Belfast at 1.10pm on Tuesday February 19. All are welcome.
