Education grants available

Tuesday March 18th 2008

The Connor and Down and Dromore Diocesan Board of Education has established an education grants scheme.

This is to encourage people from the dioceses who may be planning to undertake studies which will be of benefit to the wider work and ministry of the Church of Ireland.

Applicants for grants should be able to demonstrate both active membership of a Church of Ireland parish in either the diocese of Connor or the united dioceses of Down and Dromore, and also show how their studies will be of benefit to the wider work and ministry of the Church of Ireland.

Application guidelines are below. Further details of the grant scheme and an application form are available by writing to: Mrs Audra Irvine, Church or Ireland House, 61-67 Donegall Street, Belfast, BT1 2QH.

Completed application forms should be submitted by May 1 2007.

Application Guidelines

1. Applications will be welcome from any individual who seeks to undertake an educational opportunity which should benefit the wider mission and ministry of the church.

2. Applicants should be able to demonstrate active membership of a Church of Ireland parish in either the diocese of Connor or the united dioceses of Down and Dromore.

3. Initial application should be by completing the attached ‘Educational Grant Application Form’. All applications will be considered and a response made in writing. Applicants may be required to attend an interview.

4. Grants will be awarded to successful applicants by 30 June each year. Applications should reach the Down and Connor and Dromore Committee by 1 May each year.

5. Applicants will be required to provide the Down and Connor and Dromore Diocesan Board of Education with the names and addresses of two referees, one of whom should be a serving member of the ordained ministry in the diocese of Connor or the united dioceses of Down and Dromore.

7. All grants will be made out in the name of the applicant. All applicants should ensure they have an appropriate bank account to receive such payment.

8. After completion of each year’s study, a short report shall be provided to the Down and Connor and Dromore Diocesan Board of Education, including details of how the educational opportunity has benefited the applicant and the wider church.
