Bishop Hilary in two week visit

Bishop Hilary pictured during his last visit to Connor in 2007.Bishop Hilary of Yei, Connor’s link diocese in southern Sudan, will be visiting Northern Ireland over the next couple of weeks.

The Bishop, who is currently studying in England, arrives on Tuesday March 25, and will spend the first three days with his friends, former Yei mission partners Billy and Jenny Smyth and their family.

It is hoped he will attend a meeting of churches in the Lisburn area during this early part of his visit.

On Friday 28, the Bishop will move to Stranmillis Rectory, where he will be the guest of the Revs Ron and Janice Elsdon.

He will be involved in the morning service at St Bartholomew’s, Stranmillis, on Sunday March 30, and that evening at 7pm, South Belfast Rural Deanery will hold a joint service in St. Thomas's, Lisburn Road.

This is for all churches in the Deanery, members of Connor Council for Mission, and anyone else who wants to come.

The Bishop will spend Monday and Tuesday March 31 and April 1 in Dublin, before returning to Connor on Wednesday 2 for a lunch in Templepatrick parish before meeting with the Bishop of Connor, the Rt Rev Alan Abernethy and his wife Liz.

CMS Ireland will host a special lunch for Bishop Hilary and Mama Joyce on Thursday 3, and the Bishop will them visit Ballymoney and Broughshane, where he will attend a special meeting of Ballymena and Antrim Rural Deaneries on Saturday 5.

The following day he will preach in St Patrick’s, Broughshane in the morning, before attending an Open Service in St Patrick’s at 6pm that evening.

On Monday 7 he will visit a local school before heading to Ballysillan parish in Belfast, where that evening he will attend a north Belfast parishes area meeting.

The Bishop’s visit ends on Tuesday April 8. It is hoped many people will attend services where possible to give the Bishop a warm welcome to Connor.
