Belfast Cathedral Festival ’08, which celebrates the anniversary of the consecration of the nave of St Anne’s in 1902, takes place on Saturday June 7 and Sunday June 8.
The Cathedral Community has organised a variety of events and services and it is hoped these will have wide appeal and will be of interest to those people who support the annual Sitout for Charities every Christmas, but have never visited this lovely building itself.
On Saturday June 7 there will be mini tours, morning organ recitals, floral arrangements, a Cathedral zoo for the younger visitors and a Festival Concert.
The concert gets underway at 7.30pm and the Cathedral Choir, under Director of Music Philip Stopford, will be joined by Philipp Dawson, baritone and a past chorister, and soprano Lynda Barrett.
A Festival Eucharist will take place at 11am on Sunday June 8 with speaker Bishop Gordon McMullan. The music will include some arrangements used at the 1904 Service of Consecration.
Festal Evensong takes place at 3.30pm on Sunday and includes the music of Vaughan Williams and the hymns of Cecil Frances Alexander.
Further details are available from the Cathedral office, telephone 028 9032 8332, ext 5, or email assist@belfastcathedral.org.
