Larne footballing ace Jeff Hughes – a former Larne FC midfielder now playing for Bristol Rovers – will open the All Saints’ Linn Road Summer Fete on Friday June 5 at 6.30pm.
Described by the Division One club as ‘a very skilful player with pace and energy,’ his career to date has taken him to Lincoln City, Crystal Palace and Peterborough United, as well as earning him two full caps for Northern Ireland.
Hughes is originally from Craigyhill and is visiting family in Larne. Any football fans will be welcome to come and meet him – and maybe even try to match his skills in the Penalty Kicks competition! The Rev Roger Thompson, rector, said: “Jeff is a great role-model for kids in this area and it’s great that someone with his talent should take time to come and support us.”
Each year the Fete is a great opportunity for the Parish of St Patrick’s with All Saints’ to reach out to the local community, pulling together so everyone can enjoy a great evening of fun and friendship.
Attractions this year include photo on a donkey, silent auction, tombola, home baked goodies, plants, penalty kicks and a BBQ. Children are encouraged to take part in a Fancy Dress competition and then enjoy their own Mini-Fete with face painting, bran tub, tuck-shop and much more.
Thanks are given to all the many stores who have donated gifts or have given their support to the event, especially Marty’s Catering Services who loaned the Bar-B-Q’s.
