St Brigid’s, Parish, Glengormley held a special Family Day to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
The day began at 10.30am with a celebration service and included special events for children together with a ‘sausage sizzle’ and refreshments. There was also an exhibition of photographs depicting parish events and people over the 50 years.
The rector, the RevBill Boyce, said: “St Brigid’s is very much a family and community based church and this has been the theme for our celebrations.”
The Bishop of Connor, the Rt Rev Alan Abernethy, spoke at the service and two former rectors, the Rev Jim Martin and Rev Ian Ballentine, also took part. A former organist, Cyril McMaster, joined a number of talented musicians along with an augmented church choir to lead the praise.
To commemorate the anniversary, a short illustrated book ‘Reflections on St Brigid’s Church 1959 – 2009’ edited by parishioner Ann Donnan, was launched and copies are currently on sale.
