Swaziland camp opportunity for young people

Wednesday May 26th 2010

USPGYoung people aged 17-22 are invited to apply to join a youth camp in Swaziland, Africa, by USPG Director Linda Chambers de Bruijn.

Linda and USPG colleagues have just returned from Swaziland, where they were asked by the diocese to participate in the youth camp in August.

Linda writes: “We have been to see the venue, which is in one of Swaziland’s top boarding schools, in the town of Big Bend. Facilities are excellent, with swimming pool, volley-ball courts and soccer pitches. “

She went on: “The aim of the camp is to work with Swazi young people (17 to 22 years ) in a youth camp setting to empower them to explore issues relating to self identity, faith, sexuality, HIV/AIDS etc. We expect to take 20 Irish young people, to spend time with approximately 100 Swazi young people. “

The group will depart Dublin on August 8 to arrive Swaziland on August 9,  staying five nights at Diocesan Centre, Mbabane, where members will do in-country training and sightseeing  until August 14 when they will travel to Big Bend. The group will depart for home on August 20.

Full costs and application forms will soon be available.  Linda said it is anticipated that costs will be covered by fundraising, with perhaps some help from each participant’s parish.

Anyone wishing to register interest should email Linda at uspg@ireland.anglican.org.
