The Connor Mission Experience Team Abroad trip to our link diocese of Yei in Southern Sudan, is now underway.
The 10-strong team is led by the Ven Stephen Forde, Archdeacon of Dalriada, and Canon Cecil Wilson, former Director of CMS Ireland. CMSI is facilitating the trip.
Archdeacon Forde and his wife Fiona left Belfast bound for Entebbe on Sunday July 4. They travelled in advance of the rest of the team to allow Fiona, a nurse, to spend time in the Martha Clinic and Children’s Ward in Yei with CMSI associate Poppy Spens, who will be returning to England during the Connor Visit.
Along with Canon Wilson, the remainder of the team comprising Ben Mallon (Stoneyford); the Rev Paddy McGlinchey (former Church of Ireland Chaplain at Queen’s, now Missiology lecturer at the Church of Ireland Institute, Dublin); Barbara Wilson (Ballynahinch); David Henderson (Larne); Judith Hegan (Agherton); Rev Sam Wright (Lisburn Cathedral) and Norma Nixon (Larne) left Northern Ireland on Tuesday July 6.
In Yei the team will attend the official opening of Mongo Primary School, built with donations from Connor Diocese, run a conference for local clergy, and help out in the clinic, schools, teacher training college and vocational training centre.
