The funeral of snooker legend Alex Higgins will take place in St Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast, on Monday August 2.
The city-centre is expected to come to a standstill as it is anticipated the funeral will be the biggest in Belfast since that of George Best at Stormont in 2005. A number of snooker stars are expected to join the Higgins family at the service.
The service in St Anne’s will be followed by burial at Roselawn Cemetery.
Belfast born Higgins, two times World Champion, was found dead at his flat in Belfast on Saturday July 24. The 61-year-old had been suffering from throat cancer for more than a decade.
