Kajiado mission partner appointed CMSI Mission Director

Tuesday August 3rd 2010

Ronnie Briggs, newly appointed Mission Director with CMS Ireland.CMS Ireland has announced the appointment of Ronnie Briggs to the post of Mission Director.

Ronnie has previously worked as part of the organisation’s staff team, but for much of his 30 years with CMS Ireland, he and his wife Maggie have served as mission partners, working alongside the Church in Kajiado Diocese, Kenya. A number of Connor parishes have links with Kajiado Diocese, and Bishop Alan visited with a small team in summer 2009.

Ronnie brings to the role a genuine passion for mission, a wealth of experience of the global church and an intimate knowledge of the unfolding story of CMS Ireland. Speaking about this important and strategic appointment, the Chair of CMS Ireland’s Board of Trustees, Clifford McSpadden, said: “We’re thrilled with this appointment and we really look forward to Ronnie joining the team and helping to lead the Society at a time when God is doing new and exciting things, both in Ireland and with our Global Partners in Africa and Asia.

“Ronnie is held in extremely high regard by the Board, the staff and our supporters and we thank God for this answer to prayer.”

The news has also been well received by CMS Ireland partners in Kajiado Diocese, Kenya who are understandably sad that Ronnie and Maggie will be leaving them but have expressed their delight that Ronnie will be serving the Church in a wider capacity.

Bishop Jeremiah Taama stated: “If Kajiado can give something to CMS Ireland and indeed to the Church, then we are proud that Ronnie and Maggie go to the office as our gift to the wider Church. CMS Ireland is our society and we are proud of it. The success of it is our success and it is also our duty to support it in whichever way we can.”

Ronnie and Maggie will leave Kenya towards the end of September and will take some time to settle back into life in Ireland. Ronnie begins work in his new role on November 8, with Brian Lavery continuing as Acting Mission Director until then.

This is one of a number of changes that are currently taking place in the staff team of CMS Ireland, as the Society seeks to respond positively to both the challenges and the opportunities that are currently faced by all mission agencies. Further details of other appointments and changes in the Society will be shared in the Autumn.
