Education grants available in Connor and Down and Dromore

Wednesday March 2nd 2011

Grants are available in Connor and Down and Dromore dioceses for students whose studies may benefit the wider work and ministry of the church.

They will be awarded by the Down and Connor and Dromore Diocesan Board of Education. Clerical Honorary Secretary the Rev Peter McDowell explained that due to the thorough revision of the Board’s operating scheme, Scheme 89, Educational Endowment (Ireland) Act 1885, the Board was able to set aside some funds to use as education grants.

Applicants for grants must be able to demonstrate active membership of a Church of Ireland parish in either Connor Diocese or the United Dioceses of Down and Dromore. Application forms are available through the Board at Church of Ireland House, Belfast, and all applications must be submitted annually by May 1, with grants being awarded in June.

In June 2010, grants were awarded to two students from the dioceses. During the three years of the scheme’s operation 24 students have received grants from the Board, supporting academic disciplines such as theological studies, counselling, youth work and inclusion studies.

Details of the grant scheme and an application form is available through writing to:
