The 2011 series of three lunchtime Music in May concerts in Christ Church Parish, Lisburn, gets underway on Tuesday May 10.
The first concert features a programme of classical and popular favourites performed by leading violinist Alan McClure. Alan is in demand as a soloist across Ireland and beyond. He regularly performs with the Ulster Orchestra, and was one of the teachers in the BBC’s 2010 Compose Yourself programme. Alan will be accompanied by one of Northern Ireland’s most respected musicians, Elizabeth Bicker, MBE.
On Tuesday May 17 the sounds of Christ Church’s Walker Organ will be raising the roof! “The Organist Entertains” will feature Nigel McClintock, Director of Music at St Peter’s Cathedral, Belfast, in a rousing programme of organ classics – including some toe-tapping arrangements. Two of Northern Ireland’s rising singing stars will join him.
Finally on Tuesday May 24 Christ Church is delighted to be hosting Ballyholme Primary School Choir, the BBC Songs of Praise Junior Choir of the Year 2010. They will be performing everything from show tunes to sacred favourites.
The concerts take place in Christ Church at 1.15pm each Tuesday and last approximately 30 minutes. Admission is free, although retiring donations would be gratefully appreciated.
The choir will be serving lunch from 12.15pm on the day of each concert. A choice of hot food, salads, desserts and refreshments will be available at a cost of £6.50. In light of previous demand for lunches, early booking is advisable. Contact Iris in the Parish Office on 028 9267 3271.
