St Colman’s, Kilroot, will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a weekend of special events running from December 9–11.
Although a modern church, the parish of Kilroot has a history spanning many centuries. It has long been associated with St Colman, and for a time towards the end of the 17th century, Jonathan Swift (later Dean of St Patrick’s and author of Gulliver’s Travels) was Prebendary of Kilroot.
This year marks not only the 40th anniversary of the first church on the present site on the Larne Road, but also the 30th anniversary of the present church building.
The rector, the Rev Mike McCann, said: “In celebrating this special occasion, we want to thank God for the vision of those who established the new church and particularly for the many blessings He has bestowed upon us over the last 40 years.
“We also wish to look forward to the future, and to trust God as He leads us on into the 21st century.”
The rector and the Select Vestry of St Colman’s invite everyone to join in the special anniversary events which include a variety concert, coffee morning and anniversary service. Full details of the weekend’s celebrations can be downloaded here.
