Before Christmas 21 parishioners from St Columba’s Parish Church, Doury Road, Ballymena, took part in a Bag Pack to raise funds for Chest Heart & Stroke Association and Life after Loss.
Dressed in distinctive red tee shirts bearing the CHS logo and carrying big buckets the parishioners converged on Sainsbury’s, Ballymena.
Working in shifts helping shoppers pack their groceries at the check out from 10am until 5pm, the group raised a magnificent £1272.87.
Cheques were presented during a recent Family Service. £1122.87 was received by Valerie Saunders on behalf of the Chest Heart & Stroke Association and Sadie Peachey from Sainsbury’s received a cheque for £150 on behalf of Life after Loss.
St Columba’s parishioners would like to extend a big Thank You to all the shoppers who so generously supported the event, and to Sainsbury for allowing them to have this Bag Pack in the store.
Afterwards one male parishioner, who doesn’t ‘do shopping!’ commented: “The craic at the check–outs was great fun and the hours certainly flew past very quickly.”
