A Commissioning Service will take place in Christ Church, Lisburn, on Sunday February 5 for a team heading off to Luwero, Uganda.
This is the first time the parish has sent a group on a mission project overseas. The project is working in association with the charity Fields of Life.
The team will be commissioned by the Rector, the Rev Paul Dundas, at morning worship at 11.30am. Team members leave for Africa on Saturday February 11 and will spend two weeks near Luwero, working on the completion of a school building which the parish is funding.
The team will also spend time with the children in assemblies and classes, and work with the clergy of Luwero Diocese. Members will have the opportunity to visit various projects associated with Fields of Life.
The team, parishioners and friends have raised the £65,000 for the school build which comprises two blocks of classrooms where up to 200 children will be educated.
The team comprises the Rev John Pickering, Lisa Megarry, Jan Knowles, Gary Knowles, Geraldine Ferguson, Janice Thompson, Richard Thompson, Raymond Geddis, Beth Harris, Liam Macartney and Johnston Boyle. They are also joined by Helen Coulter, Gary Corkin and John McIlroy who represent the local Rotary Club and by Mark Lyons.
After the Commissioning Service there is a Soup Lunch for the team and parishioners in the Parish Hall to celebrate this opportunity for mission and to encourage the team in this mission project.
