New Canon elected to St Anne’s Cathedral

Rev Jerome Munyangaju, rector of Killyleagh, has been elected a Canon of St Anne's Cathedral.The Chapter of St Anne’s Cathedral has elected the Rev Jerome Munyangaju, Rector of Killyleagh , as a Canon of the Cathedral.

Jerome is a native Rwandan and is passionate about reconciliation and how Ireland can learn from the Rwandan experience.

He came to the Church of Ireland in 1995 as the church’s first Mission Resource Person whilst also serving as part–time curate assistant of Knockbreda. He served a further curacy in Bangor Abbey before his appointment to Killyleagh in 2000.

Bishop of Down and Dromore, The Rt Rev Harold Miller said: “I am very pleased indeed to hear that The Revd Jerome Munyangaju has been chosen by the Chapter as a canon of St Anne’s Cathedral Belfast. Jerome brings with him a wealth of experience both in Africa and here in Ireland.

“He is a much loved Rector of Killyleagh, an insightful theologian, and someone who, both in Rwanda and Northern Ireland, has shown a passionate commitment to reconciliation. His presence will be a great blessing to the work of the Cathedral.”

No date has yet been set for the installation of the new Canon.
