Seminar on pastoral care of those suffering from dementia

Wednesday January 9th 2013

Connor Age Ability Committee is hosting a half day seminar for clergy and laity on the pastoral care of people suffering from dementia.

This will take place at the Dunadry Hotel, Templepatrick, on Wednesday October 20 beginning at 9.30am.

Guest speaker is the Rev Dr Heather Morris who hosted a very well attended and accessible seminar on dementia two years ago. Heather is a Methodist Minister and Director of Ministry at Edgehill Theological College, Belfast where she has a particular interest in practical care and pastoral theology.  Her PhD in Practical Theology is from the University of Edinburgh and focuses on pastoral communication with confused elderly people.

Heather will help participants explore how the Church cares for people affected by dementia, both the individuals themselves and those who care for them.  During the course of the two sessions, she will review the nature of dementia and some Christian reponses to it.

The sessions will focus on pastoral care, including leading worship that connects with those suffering from dementia and caring for carers. The seminar will allow participants to integrate theology and practice.

A light lunch will be provided at the end of the seminar at 12.45pm.

If you have not yet signed up for this seminar and would like to attend, please complete the application form which can be downloaded here and return to Archdeacon Stephen McBride, chair of Connor Age–Ability Committee, by Friday October 15
