A special Day of Prayer for Syria and its peoples is to take place in St Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast, on Wednesday October 23 from 9am to 5pm.
Recent global media attention relating to the conflict in Syria has brought the country and the ongoing humanitarian situation involving refugees having left in huge numbers for neighbouring countries into sharp focus. The Day of Prayer has been organized in response to this.
Anyone who wishes to take part is invited to come into the cathedral at any time during the day for any length of time. Prayers and readings for Syria led by a number of invited speakers will take place on the hour throughout the day. At 1pm and at the close of the day at 5.30pm, a Service of Reflection will take place with Psalms–based prayers for those affected by conflict and persecution.
The Rev Canon Denise Acheson, Dean’s Vicar at St Anne’s Cathedral who is helping to organize the Day of Prayer said: “Whether you can come for only five minutes or 50 minutes, please come to the cathedral and add your prayers before God for peace at this critical time.”
