A ‘Musical Extravaganza’ held in Christ Church Parish, Lisburn, has raised more than £1,000 to extend a school built by the parish in Uganda.
Lisnagarvey Operatic Society presented an evening of songs from the shows in the
church on February 13. Compere Heather Campbell introduced a great selection of foot tapping songs from popular shows including Oklahoma and Les Miserables, also some from the society’s forthcoming production of ‘Me and my Girl’ which they will present at the Island Hall, Lisburn, from April 8–14.
Musical Director was Ian Milford and the accompanist was Christine Cairns. The event was the last in the Society’s autumn and winter series of concerts which to date have raised some £5,000 for various charities. All proceeds from the Christ Church concert are going to fund the parish’s school building project in St Apollo, Uganda.
A spokesperson for Christ Church Fundraising Committee said: “Over three years ago, some members of Christ Church Parish started what seemed like an impossible task of raising funds to build a new school in Uganda.
“Following lots of hard work and ingenuity a team from Christ Church helped build the school in February 2012 and when the team return to Uganda in February 2015, they hope to extend the school and build staff accommodation. We would like to thank Lisnagarvey Operatic Society for a wonderful night’s entertainment which helped us raise over £1,000 towards our Uganda project.”
