Dedication of new choir robes at Lambeg Parish

Wednesday April 30th 2014

New choir robes were dedicated in memory of the late Ralph Dickson at the evening service in Lambeg Parish Church on Sunday April 27.

Mr Dickson died on April 26 2003, and the new robes were presented by his widow Mrs Reta Dickson and dedicated by the rector of Lambeg, the Rev Canon Ken McReynolds.

The new robes replace those which had been dedicated in June 1964 by the then Bishop of Connor, the Right Rev Cyril Elliott.

During his sermon Canon McReynolds paid tribute to the faithful service of two choir members, Mrs Myra Scott and Mrs Doreen Topping, who were present for the dedication of the old robes 50 years ago!

During the service Miss Edna Downing presided at the organ and Mrs Dickson accompanied the choir on the piano. The choir’s contribution to the service included the anthem ‘Spirit of God abide with me’ arranged by Philip Kern and the hymn choice included the traditional ‘Bright the vision that delighted’ and the more contemporary ‘See what a morning gloriously bright.’

Following the service, supper was served in the Church Hall and Mrs Scott and Mrs Topping were presented with orchids as a small token of appreciation for their singing and fellowship in the church choir.
