A ‘Take the Castle’ weekend organised by Engage Connor Youth at Castlewellan Castle over the weekend of September 5–7 proved a great success.
More than 100 young people and youth leaders from parishes across Connor Diocese descended on the imposing Castlewellan Castle and its grounds to enjoy fun, fellowship, and some fantastic weather.
It was non stop from the minute they arrived on the Friday evening, with games to help everyone get to know each other, worship, a late night walk around the lake if weather, a hot dog supper and a disco in the cellar!
Saturday kicked off with a morning of worship and teaching, followed by an afternoon of activities including a crazy and energetic It’s a Knockout in the Castle Grounds, a visit to the maze where the competition was rife to be the first team to the centre and back, and a scavenger photo hunt which took the team around the grounds, onto the lake shores and into the stunning Annsley Gardens.
There were more games after dinner and evening worship before things calmed down with Saturday night supper.
Sunday morning featured worship and teaching, and the young people were delighted to be joined by the Bishop of Connor, the Rt Rev Abernethy. There was time for reflection before the chair of Engage Connor Youth, the Rev Peter Ferguson, summed up the weekend, reflected on the message of the event and looked forward to future events.
The theme of the weekend was ‘You’re in the Army Now! Living in the Lordship of Christ (Ephesians 6) looking at areas of Christian discipleship such as identity, courage and prayer.

Engage Connor Youth also has a Facebook Page which will be updated with news and photos from the event.
