The first of three Kids Big Adventure Days organised by Connor Children’s Project Officer Jill Hamilton took place in Ballymoney on October 4.
What an afternoon it was with 54 children and more than 20 leaders taking part in the event, the theme of which was ‘The Big Step.’
Through a variety of medium, including music, craft and games, the children were encouraged to take a step of faith towards Jesus – Fully Relying On God – or FROG for short.
To illustrate this, they heard the story from the Bible telling how Peter stepped out of the boat and walked on the water to Jesus.
Then it was hands on, as everyone got stuck into making bunting. On stage, there was a full programme, beginning with ‘silly warm up songs’ (doesn’t everyone just love the chance to be silly!) a drama to set the scene, praise songs with lots of energetic actions, and puppet camels who told the story of Peter on the water
In a craft workshop the children made frog rice balls and prayer feet, and then had to tackle six challenges, all to do with their feet! They included hands free balloon keepy uppy, step in the dark, the foot pick-up challenge and a shoe recognition challenge.
There was more drama on stage, more music, a talk and then the children had the opportunity to read the prayers they had written.
The next two Kids Big Adventure Days take place on Saturday October 11 @ Jordanstown Parish Halls, Newtownabbey; and on Saturday October 18 @ St Paul’s Church Hall, Lisburn
Each event runs from 2pm–5pm, admission is £3 per child and leaders can attend for free.
