The Mission to Seafarers is appealing for Christmas gifts for those who will visit the Flying Angel Centre at Belfast Docks over the holiday period.

Most of these seafarers will be many miles from home, and the Mission hopes to bring a smile to their faces with a festive and practical gift and to that end is looking in particular for donations of toiletries.

Last year, 25 seafarers visited the Centre on Christmas Day and 38 on Boxing Day with a total of 227 calling into the Centre between Christmas Day and New Year Year’s Eve.

If anyone has some time to spare to help wrap these gifts, please contact Doreen Salters, Appeal Secretary, on 028 90 751131.

The Mission to Seafarers’ Carol Service takes place on Sunday December 14 at 3.30pm, in the Flying Angel Centre and the service will be followed by refreshments.

The Christmas Dinner will be held on Friday December 19 at 12.30pm. Only 30 places are available and tickets, at £15.00 per person, will be allocated on a first come first served basis. They can be bought from the Flying Angel Centre or by contacting Doreen at the number above.

The Mission to Seafarers will be holding a collection at Down Royal Races on Boxing Day, and is looking for volunteers to help out. They will start collecting at 11am outside the entrance barriers and will have refreshments and enjoy the racing between the first and last race, and collect again at 3pm outside the exit gates.  If you are interested, please contact Colin Hall-Thompson or Doreen Salters on 028 90 751131.
