Heather Gibson, event co-ordinator, the Rev Simon Genoe, vicar, and the Rev Canon Sam Wright, rector, admire one of the beautiful floral displays in Lisburn Cathedral.
A seasonal extravaganza for the entire community on the theme ‘Joy to the world’ was held in historic Lisburn Cathedral on Sunday December7.
Co-ordinated by Mrs Heather Gibson, the event told the Christmas story imaginatively through live music and flowers. Carrickfergus Grammar School Choir, under the direction of Edward Craig, sang Christmas pieces and seven gifted flower arrangers created seven wonderful live displays over the course of the afternoon.
They included international flower demonstrator, the Very Rev William McMillan MBE, some of this year’s RHS Chelsea medal-winners, and other well-known flower demonstrators.

People who attended the event had the opportunity to contribute to local charity Abaana, which is raising funds to allow it to take eight homeless young people off the streets of Uganda. During the week people were able to pop into the Cathedral to view the floral displays and also to enjoy refreshments in the Cathedral’s coffee room.
