Cairncastle churches celebrate diversity Brazilian-style

Tuesday January 20th 2015

Well smThe four churches of Ballygally and Cairncastle are celebrating the 2015 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity with a special event in St Patrick’s Church, Cairncastle on Thursday January 22 at 7.30pm.

Organised by the Cairncastle Coastal Clergy Group, Christians from every church denomination are warmly invited to join in worship, prayer and fellowship.

The service will be hosted by the Rev Roger Thompson (rector of St Patrick’s with All Saints), with participation from theRev Lena Cockroft (Cairncastle Non-Subscribing Presbyterian Church), the Rev Fiona Forbes (Cairncastle Presbyterian Church) and Mrs Mary Lynch (St Joseph’s Catholic Church, Ballygally).

The Week of Prayer is an annual event run by the World Council of Churches and this year’s material has been provided by the churches in Brazil, where divided Christian groups are learning to respect and even enjoy diversity, listening and talking to each other.

Taking the theme of Jesus’ meeting with a Samaritan woman at a well, the service will explore the call of Jesus to approach one another in trust so that we can see the face of God in all men, women and children.

Tea and coffee will be served at the end so people can enjoy meeting up together in friendship.  Coastal Clergy member Roger Thompson said: “St Patrick’s is celebrating its 200th birthday this year, and it is a real privilege to be hosting this year’s Christian Unity service at this time.  It will give our bicentenary a Brazilian touch!”
