Silent Witness actor David Caves paid a visit to St Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast, on January 29, making the day for Cathedral volunteer Doris Hempton who is a big fan of the BBC series.
David, a former pupil of Campbell College, and his girlfriend toured the beautiful Cathedral, which last year launched a new visitor experience including a full colour guide booklet and audio tour.
Doris, who was volunteering at the Cathedral’s Welcome Desk at the time, took the opportunity to show David and his girlfriend some of the special artefacts in St Anne’s, including a chair in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit which dates back to 1662.
David plays Jack Hodgson in Silent Witness, and Doris, an avid viewer of the series, enjoyed a chat with him and even quizzed him about the romantic fortunes of his TV character!
“It was a lovely surprise and great to see a young man from Belfast who has done so well,” said Doris. “He was a very nice gentleman and said St Anne’s was a wonderful cathedral and that he had enjoyed his visit.”
St Anne’s Cathedral is open to visitors from 9am to 5.15pm Monday to Saturday, (last audio tour at 4.45pm), and 1 to 3pm only on a Sunday. Please note that the Cathedral will sometimes be closed for special services like weddings and funerals.
The Cathedral is a sacred space and is open for worship and services outside of these hours. Anyone can come into the Cathedral freely at any time of the day for quiet and a place to pray. Please check the website for the times of services.
