Couples invited to attend Marriage Preparation course

Monday June 8th 2015

WeddingHandsGeneric_largeCouples planning to get married in a parish church in the dioceses of Connor or Down and Dromore, are welcome to attend a Marriage Preparation course at Belfast Cathedral.

The Cathedral ran its first course during May, and couples getting married in the Cathedral in 2015 were invited to attend.

The day was facilitated by Dean’s Vicar, the Rev Canon Denise Acheson, and Mrs Desney Cromey –their respective spouses – Terry and Roger,  came along as well.

A number of relevant subjects were covered including communication, conflict, spiritual values, parenting and finances.

In a relaxed setting the couples were invited to fill in various questionnaires, discuss with each other their answers and share with the group, where appropriate, insights around various issues.

Everyone filled in an evaluation sheet and when asked to say in one word what they thought about the day and their experience of it their responses included:  Informative, worthwhile, interesting, helpful, great and thought provoking.

Canon Denise said: “A number of parishes may have only one or two couples getting married in the year and the Cathedral would like to extend an invitation to couples who are not getting married in the Cathedral, but feel they would benefit from a Marriage Preparation course and would like to participate in a bigger group.”
