Mr Peter Cheney has joined the Church of Ireland Press Office, based in Church House, Belfast, as the new Assistant Press Officer.

Peter comes to the post from agendaNi and eolas magazines where he has worked for the past eight years as a journalist and as Deputy Editor. Before this, Peter spent two years as a journalist at the County Down Outlook and he has contributed to both the Church of Ireland Gazette and to the Presbyterian Church’s Reach Out magazine.

Beyond his interests in media and communications, Peter enjoys travel, reading, current and world affairs and inner-city mission and ministry. He is an active member of Willowfield Parish, Belfast.

The Chair of the Central Communications Board, the Most Rev Pat Storey, Bishop of Meath and Kildare, said: “I am delighted with the appointment of our new Assistant Press Officer to the Church of Ireland, Mr Peter Cheney.

“Peter has a well accredited background in journalism and he brings many strengths to this role. We look forward to having Peter amongst us, and we welcome him warmly to this post where we know he will contribute greatly and be a great addition to the team.”

Peter succeeds Mrs Jenny Compston who retired as Press Office Administrator in June.
