Church of Ireland Historical Society meets on November 7

crossorig_hiThe next meeting of the Church of Ireland Historical Society will be held in the Music Room of Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin, on Saturday November 7.

In the morning session Dr Jarlath Killeen from the School of English in Trinity College Dublin will speak on ‘The Irish Protestant Gothic tradition’ and this will be followed by a research paper by Ms Jessica Cunningham on  ‘For ‘‘Decency and Order” : The Church of Ireland’s acquisition and use of altar silver in the seventeenth century.’

After lunch Dr Jennifer Redmond from the History Department in Maynooth will speak on ‘Protestants in Free State Ireland: Perceptions of identity and belonging in the post-revolutionary period’ and the day will conclude with a lecture by Dr Ian d’Alton on ‘Navigating the minefield: how The Irish Times and the Church of Ireland Gazette approached the Tilson case and the dogma of the Assumption in 1950.’
