Agherton celebrations continue with Flower Festival and Lecture

Agherton Parish continues celebrating 175 years since the consecration of  the current church building with a Flower Festival entitled ‘Words of the Lord: The Person of Christ’.

The festival will take place in the Church of St John the Baptist, The Diamond, Portstewart, over the Bank Holiday weekend May 27-30.

The church itself has been newly renovated and augmented. The worshipping highpoint of the weekend will be Festival Matins at which the Bishop of Tuam, the Rt Rev Patrick Rooke, will preach.

Another event to look forward to will be the inaugural Annual Agherton Lecture which will be given in the parish church on Monday June 13 at 8pm by the Archbishop of Armagh, the Most Rev Dr Richard Clarke. His subject is ‘Redeeming the Church.’

Admission to the lecture is £5 and this will include a reception in the new porch area at 7.15pm. All are welcome.

A service of re-hallowing and dedication on the church extensions will take place on Tuesday September 6 at 7.30pm at which the Bishop of Connor, the Rt Rev Alan Abernethy, will preside and the Bishop of Clogher, the Rt Rev John McDowell, will be the preacher.
