St John’s Parish Church, Stoneyford, was a focal point for the community during the switch on of the Christmas tree lights in the village on December 1.

Councillor Hazel Legge, Deputy Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, was the special guest at the switch-on.  Ballycarrickmaddy Primary School Choir sang a great selection of Christmas songs and carols, and amidst a flurry of excitement Santa arrived in style on Mr Joe McAlease’s pony and trap.

Marc Winchester, Natasha Armstrong and Hannah Corry, members St John’s Church, depicted ‘The real reason for the season’ as they acted the role of Mary, Joseph and an angel.

People who attended the switch-on then walked the short distance to St John’s Church Hall where Santa presented Christmas gifts to the children.

Refreshments provided by a team of volunteers and members of the Stoneyford Community and Youth Association included hot stew provided by the Ballymac Hotel.
