Supporting asylum seekers and refugees

A volunteer helping teach English in free classes for refugees at All Saints’, Belfast. This project features in the resource.

The Church of Ireland Refugee Working Groups have updated their resource on supporting asylum seekers and refugees, which highlights opportunities to become more involved in this area of ministry and service.

Included in the report is reference to the work of All Saints’ Parish, University St, Belfast, in Connor Diocese, which offers free English lessons to refugees and migrant workers, along with a crèche. (This story was covered in full in the Spring issue of Connor Connections).

The resource covers the Church’s current and past responses to the refugee crisis; sources of further support for asylum seekers and refugees; definitions, statistics and processes regarding asylum and refugee resettlement; and examples of work undertaken by associated missionary societies and ecumenical networks.
