The Americans are in town! A group of 23 young people from the USA and their leaders headed to Glenarm this afternoon for the start of Summer Madness where they will be joining the young people from Engage Connor Youth.

The Americans, all members of Christ in Youth, will be working as crew at Summer Madness, and camping at the Connor sub-camp, before joining Connor Streetreach in Glenavy from July 3-6.

On Friday they enjoyed ice-creams and sunshine during a walking tour of north Belfast, conducted by Diocesan Children’s Officer Christina Baillie. They tucked into an Ulster fry at lunchtime in the Foundry Café at the Spectrum Centre in Shankill Road, and visited the nearby Connor / Church Army Centre of Mission, Connect Base, and St Michael’s Parish Church.

Emilie Bartel, special events and hospitality director with The Kirk Presbyterian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is one of the leaders of the American group.

She said nineteen of the group are from The Kirk Church, and the others come from Ohio, Kansas and Missouri.

We will be catching up with the young people from Connor and their American friends at both Summer Madness and Streetreach – watch this space….
