A team of five parishioners from Ballinderry accompanied by two friends from Enniskillen are currently in Ethiopia supporting the charity Operation Rescue.
Merville and Thelma Boyd, Shannon Boyd, Ian Megarry and Denis Ferguson from Ballinderry and Victor and Rosemary Magowan from Enniskillen are in the middle of a visit to encourage the staff of Operation Rescue at three existing centres in Mekelle, Adigrat and Adwa.
The team is also visiting the construction site of a fourth centre in the city of Maichew.
Merville said: “The dedicated staff of Operation Rescue provides over 700 disadvantaged children with support on a daily basis. Their education is greatly improved with English and IT tuition.
“Daily devotions enable us to build the work on Christian principles and belief. We see and hear so many testimonies of precious little lives changed by God’s Grace.”
Friends of Operation Rescue in Northern Ireland sent a 20ft container to Mekelle in December 2018 full of donated items including computers, bicycles, clothing and much more. The team has been attending meetings this week in Mekelle to ensure customs clearance will take place and the contents can be distributed around the centres.
The team arrives back on Wednesday January and will be holding an update service in Ballinderry Parish Hall on Sunday February 24 at 7pm. This will be about all aspects of the Operation Rescue work and all are welcome to attend.
