Kilbride Parish website wins top communications prize

In the prizes! Jacqueline Weir from St Matthew’s Parish and David Holmes from St Bride’s Parish Church, Kilbride.

Congratulations to Kilbride Parish which won first prize in the parish website category of the Church of Ireland Central Communications Board’s 2019 Communications Competition.

This year’s competition was for the best websites and social media platforms from parishes, dioceses and church organisations.

Mr David Holmes, webmaster with Kilbride Parish, receives the award for Best Parish Website from Scott Hayes representing the Ecclesiastical Insurance Office which was supporting the General Synod event.

Another Connor winner was St Matthew’s Parish, Belfast, which was runner-up in the Innovative Use of Social Media category.

Connor Diocese’s website was commended in the Diocesan websites category.

The results were announced by the Most Rev Pat Storey, Bishop of Meath and Kildare and Chairman of the Central Communications Board, at the General Synod reception on May 16.

The competition was run by the Church of Ireland Press Office but externally and professionally judged.

Awarding Kilbride first prize the judges stated: ‘This website has a wonderful landing page with excellent use of menus. It feels inviting and uncluttered. The content is superb – very dynamic and up to date. The website is full of life and tells me that the parish is full of life and energy.’

St Matthew’s was awarded runner-up in the Innovative Use of Social Media category for its Facebook page. The award citation read: ‘… a truly wonderful presence on social media – it is a page that is faith–filled, welcoming and evangelising in nature. They really get it in terms of drawing people in with great content and a good attitude in an online space.’

The diocesan website was commended for its ‘… great landing page full of colour and excellent content which is dynamic and updated. The website has great functionality and an overall lovely design that was given time and thought.’

At the presentation, there was praise for all the entrants for their efforts in communicating within their own contexts in each category, with convincing evidence of communication work of a high standard across the island.
