New principal for Yei theological college

The Rev Lokosang Emmanuel, new principal of the Bishop Allison Theological College in Yei, South Sudan.

We welcome further signs of hope in Yei, South Sudan, with the announcement by Church Mission Society Ireland (CMSI) that a new Principal has started work at Bishop Allison Theological College (BATC) in Yei.

The Rev Lokosang Emmanuel has been a priest in the Diocese of Yei (which Connor has been in partnership with for more than 10 years) for the last 15 years, and was chaplain at the college last year.

An update from the college reveals 20 students are just beginning their second year of studies.

Rev Lokosang was one of three students sent by Yei Diocese, in partnership with CMSI, for further studies at the Africa Renewal University from 2015-2018. He studied along with the Rev Cosmas Gwagwe, who visited CMSI link parishes in Ireland as part of the Harman Scholarship Programme in 2016, and the Rev John Todoko now serving in Morobo Diocese.

Link parishes from Connor, Dublin and Glendalough dioceses supported these students with their studies

Linda Abwa of CMSI said: “Theological training has long been a priority of CMSI and it is a joy to have partnered with the Diocese of Yei in enabling these three clergy to expand their theological training, and to see that Rev Lokosang will use his training to empower and inspire students at BATC.”
