The Rev Andrew Campbell, rector of Skerry, Rathcavan and Newtowncrommelin (Broughshane), has an article published in the summer edition of the evangelical academic theological journal Churchman.
Director of the Church of Ireland Theological Institute, the Rev Canon Maurice Elliott, who has served in Connor Diocese in both Coleraine and Greenisland, has also contributed to this issue of Churchman.
Andrew writes on the following: ‘Nonviolent atonement theology is motived by an ethical concern for the ‘Other,’ a grouping defined as those outside positions of power and at risk of oppression. However, this critical assessment highlights the negative impact upon the oppressed ‘Other’ made by the denials of a future ‘other-worldly’ heaven and the rejection of the wrath of God that are often found in nonviolent atonement theology.
