The Rt Rev Moses Zungo, Bishop of Maridi Diocese, South Sudan, will join CMS Ireland for its annual conference, Ignite, in September.
Bishop Moses and his wife, Mama Rejoice, were recently granted their UK visas and are now awaiting a decision on their Irish visa application. In addition to contributing to the Ignite programme, they will be spending time with CMSI link churches during a two-week visit to Ireland.
Bishop Moses has been leading Maridi Diocese since June 2018, having succeeded the current Archbishop of South Sudan, The Most Rev Justin Badi Arama, who himself spoke at Ignite in 2017. Connor Diocese has a long standing partnership with Yei Diocese, South Sudan.
CMSI’s Mission Director Jenny Smyth said: “We are delighted that these visas have been granted and we are looking forward to having Bishop Moses and Mama Rejoice at Ignite. It’s the latest expression in a long, fruitful relationship with Maridi Diocese and with the wider Church in South Sudan.
“In CMSI, we invest significant time and effort in facilitating such visits to Ireland from our Global Partner leaders. These visits are a source of real blessing to churches and individuals here and they help to deepen the bonds of friendship and partnership. Our partners have much to contribute to the Church in Ireland; we want to help them share these gifts.”
Now into its fourth year, CMSI’s Ignite conference seeks to celebrate the breadth of the society’s work and to help inspire and equip people for a new year of engagement in global mission.
The programme includes worship, teaching, stories and seminars, with updates from all of CMSI’s Global Partners. The event takes place at Dromantine Retreat and Conference Centre, near Newry.
In addition to Bishop Moses and Mama Rejoice, CMSI hopes to welcome two guests from Kenya to Ignite 2019 – Bishop Gaddiel Lenini (Kajiado Diocese) and Antony Nyoroge (Urban Development Programme, Nairobi).
The programme will also include inputs from CMSI Mission Associates, Paul and Alison Guinness (Burundi) and from Archbishop Richard Clarke.
This year’s Ignite conference takes place on Saturday September 14. There is also a Friday Extra residential programme on September 13 for those guests who book to stay at Dromantine. Further information, including booking details, can be found on the CMSI website.
