A new consort, founded by Matthew Owens, Director of Music at Belfast Cathedral, will give its debut performance in the Cathedral on Friday December 6.
The Ulster Consort will present Handel’s Messiah, with stellar period instrument ensemble Laudonia, and a superb quartet of soloists, including Conor Breen and Ben McAteer – both from Northern Ireland.
The Ulster Consort is a group of professional singers, with the majority of them based in or from Northern Ireland. Its main performance venue will be Belfast Cathedral.
Matthew, who took up his role at Belfast Cathedral in September, said: “Of course, there are already other performances of Messiah in the locality, but I believe that this realisation, with a small professional choir of only 13 singers, period instruments, and on an intimate scale, will offer a very different perspective on this very familiar work.
“This is the beginning of a journey for this new group and I hope that music lovers across Northern Ireland and beyond will embrace this exciting new venture.”
The concert begins at 7.30pm on December 6. Ticketing information below.
