A ‘mood of cautious optimism’ is prevalent in Yei Diocese, South Sudan, according to CMSI mission partner Billy Smyth, currently spending time at Yei’s Vocational Training College.

Writing from Yei on Sunday, Billy said: “Yesterday afternoon in Juda [capital of South Sudan] the new Unity Government was sworn in. A very significant day in the life of this new nation.

“The mood on the ground here seems to be one of cautious optimism. Almost one of ‘we’ve been through all this before.’

“We pray that this time round, things will be different, that the Unity Government will work and move this otherwise beautiful country forward in lasting peace.”

Connor Diocsese has been in partnership with Yei Diocese since 2007.
