Flourish is running an event entitled ‘Pastoring the Pastor’ in Willowfield Parish Halls, Belfast, on Friday March 13 from 10am-12.30pm.
The course covers the importance of clergy self-care and implementing this in your daily life.
The charity says: “Regular exposure to distress, worries and problems and the responsibility of providing support can have a substantial impact on the clergy. Whereas we profess the care and compassion that is necessary for others to heal sometimes we feel that the same does not apply to us as it is our responsibility to give this to others.
“Unfortunately, we are now seeing high levels of ‘burnout’ or ‘compassion fatigue’ as it is also known. This is brought about by constantly giving to others and ignoring our own need for compassion, kindness and caring.
“We have an obligation to ourselves to ensure that we have an appropriate programme of self-care to strengthen our own physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual health and wellbeing.”
The Flourish self-care programme will look at the importance of self-care, the serious effects of ‘burnout’ and how to develop and implement a personal self-care plan.
To register, please download and fill in the registration form and return to Flourish by March 11.
