History comes alive at Holy Trinity Rectory on VE Day anniversary

Monday May 11th 2020

The Rev Dr Alan McCann, rector of Holy Trinity Woodburn, helped bring history alive for local children when he staged a VE Day 75th anniversary display outside the rectory.

Alan exhibited a child’s gas mask used by his late father when he was a baby, and a larger gas mask which belonged to his grandmother.

Among the other memorabilia was a home guard medal.

“I left these out all day and children in the street took it in turns to come down with their parents and learn a little history,” Alan said.

Across Connor Diocese, many virtual services were held and bells rang out to ensure the 75th anniversary of this milestone in history did not pass unmarked.
