Jill Bradley, a member of St Peter’s Parish, Antrim Road, Belfast, refused to allow lockdown to deter her from supporting the annual Christian Aid Week.
Jill raised almost £1,300 with a simple alternative to the house-to-house collection normally she carries out every year with other members of her church during Christian Aid’s key fundraiser, held in May.
Since retiring, Jill had been taking a half-hour walk every morning around her neighbourhood in Glengormley. To raise funds for Christian Aid Week, she doubled this to an hour a day and asked friends, family and church members to sponsor her.
Jill said she has enjoyed the beautiful spring weather and that she feels fitter too.
A Christian Aid spokesperson said: “Our thanks go to Jill’s friends and family, and to the Rev Brian Lacey and all the members of St Peter’s Parish Church, Belfast who supported her so generously.”
